Fallon Community Events, formerly The Fallon Lights of Christmas, is a non-profit organization that since 2010 has raised money to purchase toys for Toys for Tots. In past years, Fallon Lights of Christmas supported Toys for Tots by assisting in the purchase of toys for over 900 children annually, which were distributed in three counties (Pershing, Lyon, and Churchill). We also collect non‐perishable food items for several local food pantries. In 2017, we started raising money for Fallon's senior community as well by starting Seniors in Need. There are so many seniors who could use some help. Some have big needs and some just need to know someone cares.
We do all this by hosting two annual events. In 2015 we started an annual Christmas in July Craft Fair. In 2019, what started out as that small craft fair, morphed into a much larger event to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Our Armed Forces Day Celebration (3rd Saturday in May) is full of crafters, vendors, food, and a Kid Zone. Official opening ceremonies include the color guard, the singing of the national anthem, and a variety of guest speakers. We host a free BBQ lunch with all the fixins and sides, for any active duty or retired US military personnel. In conjunction with Armed Forces Day, there is a Poker Chip Run. We invite ALL types of vehicles to participate. Active and retired military personnel are also entered into the raffle for an American Flag that was flown over the nation's Capitol Building, in honor of this event.
In November, with the Churchill County Library, we host Elves in Need...a gingerbread house making competition. This is a fun event for kids of all ages. We take photographs of the kids with their newly build houses and post those pictures at the Family Festival where folks can vote on their favorite.
Every December, we host the Fallon Lights of Christmas Family Festival. This is the event that started it all! The Family Festival is filled with crafters and vendors, just in time for the holidays. We also have food and entertainment. At 4:00, the tree auction begins. Starting at the end of summer, we go into the community and sell sponsorship of live potted Christmas trees to people who decorate them. These trees are displayed all day at the Family Festival. Toward the end of festival, those decorated trees are auctioned off to the highest bidder, along with many wonderful items donated by local businesses. If you would like to sponsor or decorate a tree, please contact us.
The support of our surrounding community is extremely important to The Fallon Lights of Christmas. Our organization’s ability to continue to operate is due in large part to the generous support of individual donors who believe in our mission, as well as gifts from businesses and corporations. We rely on donations for exciting items to be auctioned off, as well as corporate sponsors to help offset the cost of trees, advertising, and venue rental. We often use donated gift cards to "decorate" our trees for the auction, which result in higher bids. Would you be willing to donate either a gift card/certificate or merchandise from your business? Or would you be a corporate sponsor? It is a win/win situation when we benefit from your donation and you receive the goodwill which comes as a result of your generosity. If you would like to sponsor or donate to one of our events (or to both), please contact us.
